Fly tying tuition

I am a qualified GAIA fly tying instructor and current member of the association.

Individual tuition from as little as £15 per hour

I'd be delighted to work with you to improve your fly tying skills and expand the range of flies you tie, whether you're a complete beginner or an intermediate or advanced tier.

All materials and tools used in lessons are provided. I can lend the tyer a vice for the lesson but you should purchase your own vice as soon as possible. I will freely give advice on which vice to choose and where to buy it from.

You should also have the following tools:

  • good sharp pointed scissors - vital for all flytying;
  • good quality hackle pliers;
  • a dubbing needle - a large hatpin serves perfectly well; and
  • at least one spool of 6/0 thread - black is the most used colour,
       followed by olive and red.

    Alternatively, I can arrange individual or group lessons tailored to your individual requirements.  Please contact me to discuss your preferences.
