Materials for sale
Fishing Class does not aim to provide a full range of tying materials. Instead, we offer small amounts of top quality product that you may not see elsewhere, whenever they become available. Our list will change regularly so please keep coming back to check what we have.
Please be aware that dry fly hackle is likely to be in short supply for the forseable furture. Bird flu, import restrictions, and rising feed and oil prices have meant that American breeders are not able to keep large flocks on the off chance they will sell. Now we also have the fashion industry competiting for long genetic feathers as hair adornments. They are buying up existing stocks at full price. I do not expect to be able to obtain any more dry saddles from Whiting before September 2011 Instead, look at buying some Whiting 100s which are the same top quality, pre-graded and sorted for your convenience.
I offer a 10% discount to bona fide members of the Fly Dressers Guild. Just quote your membership number with your order.
I also offer the same 10% discount to members of the Salmon and Trout Association.
Free postage on all orders over £30.00.

Bleached and Dyed Peacock Herl This is a wonderful material for making compact bodies on small nymphs, spiders, wet and dry flies. Less strong than the larger peacock herl, it is still easy to use and unusually retains its iridescence despite the bleaching and dying process. Sold in: |
| Pack of three feathers of one colour | £2.00 | |
Sampler pack of one each of six colours | £3.00 |
Colours: Olive Green; Golden Olive; Light Brown; |
Immature Seal's Fur (lots in stock, dyed to order)
There is nothing quite like immature seal's fur for dubbing bodies. It has translucence, movement and once understood is easy to work with. Good seal's fur is often difficult to obtain. Do not mistake this for the stiff and hard to work with adult seal, this is much easier! Send a stamped addressed envelope for a free sample |
1 gram bags | £2.25 | |
Colours: Natural; Natural bleached; Red; Claret; Green Highlander; Yellow; Fluoro Yellow; Gold; Hot Orange; Light Olive; Dark Olive; Fluoro Green; Teal Blue; Dark Blue; Purple or blends of the above |
DNA Frosty Fish Fiber (in stock)
DNA's Frosty Fish Fiber is the ultimate fly tying material for the creation of baitfish imitations. This translucent helical fibre changes in depth of tone from a deep virtually radiant hue that almost glows, to what appears to be a lighter shade of the same color with a frosty sheen, depending on how the light hits the material. This mimics the behavior of light playing on the skin of natural baitfish, simulating the changes of luster and color that take place naturally. The resulting artificial, tied using Frosty Fish Fiber, has an incredible life-like quality that effectively reflects the characteristic patina and tonal changes of the real thing. Sold in: |

Madeira Metallic Tinsel (in stock)
Madeira are well known amongst the ladies who stitch and knit as suppliers of a wide variety of tinsels, silks and threads. I particularly like the metallic tinsels that come in a twisted thread in a variety of colours. They make great "sparkler" type flies and are an economic way to add a bit of flash to any fly, large or small. I use the blue for the sides and tail in Peter Cockwill's famous "Blue Flash Damsel". This material is easy to use and easy to store and has very little waste. Sold in: |
Pack of 22 yards (20 metres) | £1.25
Colours: White/Gold; Black/Gold; Silver; Pearl; Black; Dark Grey; Green; Damsel Blue; Copper; Red; Grey/Green |
Madeira Neon Thread (in stock)
This thread equates to about a 3/0 thread but is much stronger. It comes in 400 metre spools in a range of neon fluorescent colours. I use it for saltwater and pike flies as it allows a large bright head to be built up without too much work. Sold in: |
400 metre spool | £4.00 | |
Colours: Yellow; Green; Red; Orange; Pink |
Madeira Spectro holographic tinsel (in stock) Ideal for creating tough ribbing on small flies, this irridescent tinsel is stronger than any lurex or mylar thread currently on the market. It is non stretch and forms a tight protective ribbing over hackles or dubbed bodies. Ideal for cheeks on buzzers or add to wings for extra flash and sparkle |
100 metre value spool | £2.35
Colours: Gold, Pink, Green |
Gutterman Sulky Sliver (in stock)
This tinsel is as fine as they come. IT is very strong for its diameter and is virtually non stretch making it ideal to put ribbing onto seals fur and other dubbing that needs to be held firmly in place. Use it on dries wets or lures as a fine but tough ribbing. |
200 metre spool | £3.40 | |
